Rules of the Forge

An apprentice learns the three rules of the smithy. He will break the third one.

Still frame: a young apprentice holding tongs at an anvil in a Viking smithy, being scolded by an older blacksmith. On the wall, three rules — hold the tongs at the cold end; do not argue with the bellows; do not lick the anvil.

About

The rules are posted on the wall, in wood and in red paint, and like all good workshop rules each one was learned the hard way by somebody else. The apprentice intends to follow all three. The anvil, meanwhile, looks unexpectedly delicious.

Rule 3. Do not lick the anvil.

Made with a mix of traditional and generative tools — the forge is real in spirit, the Vikings are real in attitude, and the rules are binding.
