Pirate Radio

A documentary about an abandoned radio station, in the earnest style of a BBC field report. The presenter keeps checking his notes. The station keeps checking on him.

Still frame: a man in a field jacket walks towards a derelict brick industrial building with closed roller doors, under a grey sky
Still frame: the presenter stands at a rusted blue door below a painted Pirate Radio sign, boarded-up windows behind him
Still frame: the presenter walks down a dilapidated green corridor towards a door marked Studio, peeling notices on the wall and a depleted coffee kitchen to the side

About the film

The premise is honest and the framing is not. It presents itself as a sober, hand-held documentary — the kind where an expert explains the history of a building while the camera lingers politely on the details. The sign above the door still reads Pirate Radio. The coffee mugs in the kitchen are still warm.

It is a light haunting: nothing leaps out, nothing screams. The unease does the work — corridor by corridor, all the way to the studio door, which is marked with a sign that has no business being as clean as it is.

The film sits on top of an original music track; the score is doing half the narrating. Made with generative moving-image tools and WitWisdom's own soundtrack — the building is empty, the credits are not.

"Local interest story, they said. Half a day's shoot, they said."
